Every program wants families to feel connected, supported, and valued, but turning that vision into reality takes more than good intentions. It takes thoughtful outreach, authentic relationships, and a culture that truly welcomes every caregiver and child.
This new five-part blog series, Partnerships & Outreach for Stronger Family Engagement, is designed for parent educators, child educators, and program coordinators who want to take family engagement to the next level. Each post blends practical strategies with encouragement, helping you reflect on what’s working in your program and where small, intentional shifts could make a big difference.
We’ve created this series based on some training last year we brought to the NPEN and MNAFEE conferences. We are excited to get these ideas into your hands!

We’ll explore topics like making that first connection with families, redefining what engagement really means, building a culture parents can feel, reaching families you may be missing, and growing through partnerships. Each post ends with three concrete action steps you can put into practice right away. (You know we love our "action steps" and "what are you taking with you today" if you've ever attended one of our trainings - as Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is quoted as saying, "A goal without a plan is just a wish.")

Whether you’re looking to strengthen your outreach, refresh your approach, or simply spark new ideas, this series is here to support you in the important work of connecting with families. Together, we can create programs where every parent feels seen, every child is supported, and every community grows stronger.
3 Actionable Steps for Programs
Gather your team and discuss what “family engagement” means in your program right now—are you aligned? What common ground do you have? Start there!
Choose one area you’d like to strengthen this year (outreach, culture, communication, partnerships) and make it a shared focus.
Commit to testing one new strategy from this series and reviewing its impact after three to six months.
